Things to see and do whilst visiting Inverell NSW

The Sapphire City
Inverell is known as the Sapphire City because of the beautiful sapphires found throughout the local district. The city has many tourist attractions you should not miss if you visit the new England area.

Tours of the local Wineries
There are a number of wineries in the district which welcome visitors for tastings and tour of facilities. These include Gilgai Red Vineyard and Winery and New England Estate Wines.

Dejon Sapphire Centre
Visit the Gem Centre on the Gwydir Highway and see the wonderful sapphires found in the area. See gem cutting in progress and visit the gift shop.

Go Gem Fossicking
Try you luck at one of the many fossicking farms in the area. Information for these can be obtained at the Tourist Information Centre in Campbell Street Inverell. Billabong Blue, The 7 Oaks, Poolbrook Fossicking Park and Nullamanna Fossicking are just a few of the locations open to visiting fossicking enthusiasts.

Visit the Inverell Pioneer Village
A visit to this historic village in Tingha Road Inverell brings you face to face with old pioneer homesteads, a bush school, hotel and a great deal more. I lovely family attraction and a nice for a picnic.

Inverell Art Gallery
It's located in Evans Street Inverell has a wide range of artistic works by various local artists and guest displays. View woodwork, glassware, pottery, paintings, enamel work, hand painted silk, embroidery, leather work and a great deal more.

Inverell Draught Horse Centre
For something different visit this interesting attraction. bring the family and see different breeds such as the majestic Clydesdale, Percheron, Australian Draught, Shire and Suffolk Punch breeds. You'll also enjoy the historic rock stables and display of draught horse harness and memorabilia.

The Inverell Transport Museum
is recognized as one of the best in New South Wales. It comprises a museum over 3,500 square metres and it one of the largest of its type in the country. Over 200 exhibits including cars, trucks, fire engines, motorcycles, tractors, pedal cars and scooters. A visit here will not disappoint you.

Gwyder Olive Factory
When you visit the Gwyder olive factory you will be taken on a guided tour of the growing, harvesting and processing of olives, olive oil, pate,  cosmetics, soaps and related olive products.

Sports and Recreation Facilities
Visit the Inverell East Bowling Club to roll a few bowls or the fine Inverell Golf Club for a pleasant 18 holes. Green Valley Farm offers Mini Golf and Waterslides. The Inverell Cinema offers the latest movie releases. There's marvellous fishing opportunities all around our Shire. Tennis and squash players can choose from an excellent range of courts.

Copeton Waters State Park
For a great family day excursion don't overlook the Copeton Waters State Park, a 900 hectare recreational and adventure playground right on our front door. A full day of fun can be had for the entire family. The Park also boasts a great lake for swimming, fishing, water skiing, canoeing and water sports in general. There are excellent picnic areas with good barbeque facilities, toilets and much more. It's quite perfect for lazy picnic or an energetic day filled with outdoors adventure and enjoyment.

Inverell Fishing Opportunities
Fish for Trout, Murray Cod, Yellow Belly, Catfish, Redfin and Perch in the Copeton Waters State Park or other district streams. Of course we can't actually guarantee a good catch but let us assure you that lots of visitors do end up with excellent catches.

Restaurants and Dining
The Cousins Motor Inn supplies cooked meals served to the rooms on  Monday to Thursday nights. 

Many desire to eat out and the following is a guide to a selection of Inverell cafes, restaurants, bistros and fast food outlets appears below.

The Riverside Restaurant has a fine A La Carte menu and can be located in Campbell Street in the same building as the Information Centre.

The Sapphire Chinese Restaurant in Byron Street serves quality Chinese food and alcoholic beverages. They also deliver to the motel where dishes can be served to your room.

Yin Thai Restaurant is new to Inverell and has first class Thai food. They can be located in Byron Street Inverell.

For a Bistro and Restaurant meal visit the RSM Club in Evans Street.

A quality hotel meal can be found at the Imperial Hotel on the Corner of Byron Street and Otho Street, Inverell.

Inverell also has the family favourites like McDonalds, KFC and Eagle Boys Pizza.

Inverell also has good bakeries, coffee shops and many take away food outlets in the main shopping centre. Woolworths and Coles supermarkets are both represented in Inverell.
